Prayer for January 8: Please pray with me. God who encounters us over and over again, we thank you for your continual engagement with us. Yet, so often we just want the cozy conversation Lord. We want to be comfortable. We want to encounter you, but on our own terms. And when the encounter is over, we want to go back to our familiar lives where we fool ourselves into believing we are in control. Yet, we know this is foolish – lives under our own control always seem to be filled with brokenness, drama, failure, and sin. Why would we want to hold onto that? But you have a different idea of what an encounter with you will lead. When you encounter us, it is to change us. To make us uncomfortable. To call us to places we don’t know anything about. Make us uncomfortable enough to get going, to respond in trust to your call, to be open to how you want to change us for your sake. Amen.
