Prayer for February 15: Please pray with me. God of all, sometimes we mistake our stuff for being a god. Too often, our money is the thing we worship. We worship money because we believe it defines our value and worth. How silly. Money no more defines who we are than being able to jump up and down on one leg. Sure it’s nice, but it doesn’t define us. You call on us to do radical things in the eyes of the world. Money whispers and sometimes shouts at us to change. Money becomes an excuse to not act, to not follow you. Money distracts us. Money proclaims a different gospel to us – a gospel that tells us that we lack, that we aren’t good enough, that we need money, that money will make decisions for us. Turn us from the idol we have made money into. Clear our eyes to see money for what it is – a tool to be used, not to be used by it. Amen.
