Prayer for August 1

Prayer for August 1: Please pray with me.  God who comes to us, be with those who are without a home.  You come to us in so many way.  You come and send us out.  You are a God who encounters us where we are.  We ask that you encounter those who are homeless or who are living in places that are not homes – whether those places are shelters, motels, cars, vans, churches, benches, or other places.  Let them know that they are not alone.  That they are not forgotten.  That there is hope.  Use us Lord to touch these lives.  To open our doors.  To help where we can.  Amen.

Prayer for July 27

Prayer for July 27: Please pray with me.  God of invitation, you do not stop inviting us.  You invite us to mission – your mission.  You invite us to participate in the unfolding of your kingdom.  You invite us to ministry.  You invite us to discipleship.  You invite us to resurrected life.  Open our hearts to respond by saying yes.  Open our heads to learn your ways and then to live them.  Open our hands to do ministry.  Thank you for the invitation.  Amen.

Prayer for July 26

Prayer for July 26: Please pray with me.  God of love, you set for us an example of how to live.  You show us the way.  You lay claim to the process.  You are not a God that believes that the ends justify the means.  You care very much about the means, the way to the end.  Just as good trees produce good fruit, you call us to good living to produce good fruit in our lives.  Continue to show us the way, to invite us into a different way of living, being, and moving.  Move us away from the failed ways of the world – ways that only lead to division, anger, fear, violence, war, and death.  There is nothing special about these ways – they don’t work.  Only your way works.  Amen.

Prayer for July 24

Prayer for July 24: Please pray with me. God of life, you come to us over and over again.  You bring life, even while we push you away and prefer things our way.  Only, our way leads to death.  Come to us, persist in your endeavor, in spite of us.  Thank you for your persistence.  Thank you for your devotion.  Thank you for not giving up on us.  Thank you for knocking us down when we get in the way of your will.  Your kingdom is unfolding before us, regardless of our cooperation with you.  Somehow, someway, I find that beautiful Lord.  Our ways become a joke in comparison to you and your ways.  Keep moving forward.  Don’t stop.  Embrace us and keep inviting us in.  Thank you.  Amen.

Prayer for July 18

Prayer for July 18: Please pray with me.  God of grace, we come to you seeking all that you offer – new life.  Open our hearts and minds to receiving this from you so that we can go and offer this to others.  Give us grace, mercy, peace, love, and forgiveness.  Use us as instruments of your will to share these with others so that they may know you.  Amen.

Prayer for July 17

Prayer for July 17: Please pray with me.  God of grace, we lift up the world to you.  All around it seems as though the world is in an uproar, filled with anger and fear, tossed about with anxiety, drowning in hopelessness.  It is easy to be consumed by this – it batters us from the beginning of the day to the end.  I smacks through our devices and our screens.  It comes through our conversations and information.  It storms us and our feelings until the unease becomes the norm.  But it is not normal Lord.  These are difficult times.  Give us the faith we need for these times.  A faith that gives us courage to follow you and your ways regardless of the cost.  Remind us that we are not alone and that you will not abandon us.  You don’t promise safety and security Lord.  Instead you make a promise and you keep your promises.  Amen.

Prayer for July 16

Prayer for July 16: Please pray with me. God who moves us, continue to edge us forward.  Forward towards you, towards others, towards life.  Move us to see what can not be unseen.  Move us to compassion.  Move us to hear those around us.  Move us to see the poor, the homeless, those on the edge, the hungry, the stranger, the children, and more.  Move us to hear those around us and respond with love, grace, mercy, joy, forgiveness, and peace.  Move us to show an alternative to what the world offers.  Move us away from setting up walls around us, and instead help us to set up ways to overcome walls of people.  Move to embrace.  Amen.
