Prayer for May 29: Please pray with me. God who mourns, today in the US is Memorial Day – a day when we remember the sacrifice given by brave men and women in defense of freedom in this land. We pray for a day when men and women won’t have to lose their lives in war. We pray for peacemakers, that their work will move us to a day and time when war will cease. Amen.
Prayer for March 16: Please pray with me. God of the nations, today we pray for the nations of the world – that their leaders would be peacemakers, ending conflict where they can. Give them wisdom. And touch the lives of people everywhere to live your call to serve one another as neighbors. Amen.
Prayer for March 15: Please pray with me. Long ago, it was written for a certain leader to beware the Ides of March. And death came. Why oh Lord, do we strive for power – to obtain it, to keep it from others, to use it to the detriment of others. Hoarding power leads to fights and ultimately death. Forgive us when we seek power and our own kingdom as opposed to seeking your kingdom. Amen.
Prayer for February 22: Please pray with me. God who brings order out of chaos, touch our land and our leaders in ways that calm the anxiety our world suffers from. Help leaders to know that peace comes through daily attention to peace. Give wisdom to our leaders so that they may implement policies that care for the least among us. Amen.
Prayer for February 13: Please pray with me. God who saves, our prayer today is simple, yet apparently so difficult to remember, believe, and follow. You are the only one who can save us – not any politician, leader, policy, or political party – it’s not even close. Yet so many put their faith and trust in these things over faith and trust in you. Why? What do we hope to achieve with this? Glory, power, being remembered, greatness, wealth, longer life? These are all laughable compared to your love which endures forever beyond the control of any human ruler. You humble the proud and powerful and bless those who the world curses. Remind us of which side of the equation you call us to be on. Amen.
Prayer for February 1: Please pray with me. God of wisdom, today we pray that your wisdom would shower down upon us like rain. Help our leaders to hear the voice of wisdom in their ways. Help our citizens to heed the voice of reason for their lives. Open the ears of all the nations to follow your wisdom in all of their actions. Turn creation towards you. Amen.
Prayer for January 20: Please pray with me. God of the nations, today we pray for the United States. We pray for our new President and all new government officials. We pray that our government officials would seek peace, listen to wisdom, and create an environment were all can thrive. Remind us that no matter how powerful a government or leader may be, they are ultimately servants. Remind our officials that no matter what their rank or authority, they are not our savior or salvation – only you are. Open our eyes to see past the labels and identities we give ourselves – political party, nationality, etc. Instead, help us to see ourselves and others as you see us – Children of God. Amen.
