Prayer for May 3: Please pray with me. Holy God, today we pray for auto mechanics. You have blessed them with amazing knowledge of mechanical things. In them we are reminded of you – you bring order out of chaos, you heal and make things work that didn’t work before. Be with mechanics this day as they touch people through the work of their hands. Amen.
Prayer for April 3: Please Pray with me. God of our homes. Today we raise up our chores. They are tiring and never seem to end. We groan under the weight of these chores. But we also thank you that you have entrusted us with all of these things to make our lives better. Help us to take what we have been entrusted with and use it for your glory, to serve our neighbors, and to carry out our vocations. Amen.
Prayer for March 14: Please pray with me. God of creation, we are reminded yet again that we are not in control of your creation. Rather we are stewards of it. Yet, even as stewards, we don’t control it. Creation is yours. You call on us to care for it. Help us do that. We also ask that you protect all those who suffer from nature and its wrath in the form of blizzards. Be with all those who must work in the midst of the storm – emergency personnel, electrical line workers, police, firefighters, those who treat and clear the roads, news organizations and so many more – we ask that you keep them safe. Amen.
Prayer for March 13: Please pray with me. God of labor, today we pray for all who labor and toil. We thank you for the ability to work. We thank you for the vocation you call us to. Bless our labors and remind us that we labor not just for money, but to fulfill our call in life – to live out the Gospel, to be a light to the world, to be an example of forgiveness in an unforgiving world, and to speak words of mercy, love, and peace to those who so desperately need to hear them. Amen.
Prayer for February 15: Please pray with me. God who labors, today we are reminded that you are a God who creates and works in that creation. We are your creation. You have called us to be stewards of that creation, including ourselves. You are also a God of rest who calls us to rest. Help us to be good stewards and laborers. Give us the courage to rest also at appropriate times. Amen
Prayer for February 2: Please pray with me. God of creation, today we pray that our weather may be most beneficial for your creation. Use the weather to nourish the earth, keep humanity and animals safe from disaster, help us to hear how we can be good stewards of your creation, and open our eyes to seeing the wonder you have created around us. Amen.
Prayer for January 26: Please pray with me. God who creates out of nothingness, we are in awe of your handiwork. We don’t understand your ways, for they are so much higher than our own. Yet so often we seem to think we know everything there is to know about you. Create in us a clean heart oh Lord, so that we can stand in awe of you, we can sit with our wondering and questions and uncertainty with you, and we can walk with others who seek your presence. Amen.
Prayer for September 7: Please pray with me. God who accomplishes all things, today we pray that we would let go of the need to be so very busy. Help us to realize that all that needs to be accomplished has been accomplished. Help us to see that our work is not something that advances our salvation, yet it is our call and vocation to participate in your mission to the world – to reconcile and restore creation’s relationship with you. Amen.
Prayer for September 5: Please pray with me. God who labors, today we pray for all who labor and toil. Bless their work and keep them safe. Remind us that our vocation goes beyond the work that we do. We aren’t just laborers Lord, we are called. Our vocation is to be your hands and feet for all around us in the various roles that we carry through life. On this Labor Day in the USA, we thank you for the ability to work. We thank you for a day to rest from our labors. We thank you for the jobs that we have. And we pray for all those who labor today, who are without employment yet seek it, who are underemployed. Grant them what they seek Lord, if it be your will. Amen.
Prayer for April 15: Please pray with me. God of Sabbath, today we pray for tax accountants and tax preparers. These individuals have worked long and hard since the beginning of the calendar year. Give them strength through these last days before the filing deadline to get the job done. And once the deadline passes, give them rest for a job well done for their clients. Amen.
