Prayer for April 23

Prayer for April 23: Please pray with me. Holy One, you come to us in many ways – often in ways we don’t recognize.  Open our eyes, our hearts, and our ears to you as you show up in our lives.  Open us to hear your truth – that you call us to live out the truth, not use the truth as a weapon to beat others into submission.  You call us to live out the truth with love.  You call us to action.  Few have ever been convinced by mere argument.  But many more have changed because they were first seen as fellow human travelers on this journey of life.  Help us to get to know people – their names and their stories.  Help up to open our hearts to these people.  Amen.

Prayer for January 10

Prayer for January 10: Please pray with me. God of action, you call us to get up and get moving.  You are a God of movement.  You moved through the creation.  You moved through prophets.  You moved through people.  You move us still today.  You call to us, you invite us to participate in your movement.  Give us what we need to respond in trust, to be moved.  Move us with being uncomfortable and inconvenienced with the injustices that we see and turn a blind eye to – right in our midst.  Make us so uncomfortable and inconvenienced that we can’t avoid living out the faith that you give us.  And don’t let us get away with passing the buck onto someone else, as if they know more, are better, or can do a better job. You call on us for a reason.  You give us exactly what is needed at the right time, and in the right place.  You have a great deal of faith in us.  Yet, we doubt – ourselves, and the faith that you give us and have in us.  Forgive us, and show us that we are as ready as we’ll ever need to be to follow you.  Amen.

Prayer for July 26

Prayer for July 26: Please pray with me. Light of the world, today we pray that we would be inspired by your word and action in the world. Help us to see past the hype and rhetoric of this world and what it offers. Help us to move past the loyalties we hold onto tightly here. Clear our eyes to see that we are citizens of your kingdom where you reign. Clear our ears to hear your words that offer us hope, mercy, grace, forgiveness, and love.  Open our hearts that we may be made new by you and in so doing, that we may be your hands, feet, and mouth to our communities.  Amen.
