Prayer for November 14: Please pray with me. God of language, who is the Word, we lift up those who need a word of Good News in their lives. We ask for a blessing for all who proclaim your Good News in places and with people who live in darkness in the world. Be a word of grace, mercy, and forgiveness to people who rarely experience these gifts. The world can be merciless and unforgiving, yet you offer an alternative Lord. Help the hearers of this Word to be open to hearing it for what it is – an invitation to restored relationship with you. Amen.
Prayer for February 8: Please pray with me. Holy God, today we pray for all who are praying. We thank you that you have given us a way to approach you in such a personal way – to share our worried and concerns, our hopes and dreams, our desires and rants. We thank you that you are a God who is secure enough to handle our doubts and fears and anger directed at you. Thank you for the blessing of prayer and how it changes us and our lives. Amen.
Prayer for February 6: Please pray with me. Word Incarnate, you are the Word of God who became flesh. We have a tendency to use words in ways we shouldn’t. Too often we use words to harm, hurt, divide, instill fear, and to control others. Turn us from these practices to you. Instill in us the wisdom to use words to bring healing, reconciliation, blessing, and peace. Amen.
Prayer for January 30: Please pray with me. God of blessing, today we remember the Beatitudes – the counter cultural teachings of Jesus. In this sermon that Jesus gives, he lists all those who are blessed. Remind us that this message of blessing is far different than what the world blesses – the wealthy, the strong, the mighty, the ruthless, the conquerors. Today we are reminded that you bless us so we can be a blessing to others and we can bless others, not destroy them. Amen.
Prayer for June 30: Please pray with me. God who is, today we pray a prayer of thanksgiving for helping us to get through the first half of 2016. We thank you for the blessings you have bestowed on us. We thank you for walking with us through the valleys of pain, suffering and loss. We ask that you bless the second half of the year. Give us wisdom, courage, patience, love and a forgiving heart. Help us to share these things with those around us. Amen.
