Prayer for January 10: Please pray with me. God of action, you call us to get up and get moving. You are a God of movement. You moved through the creation. You moved through prophets. You moved through people. You move us still today. You call to us, you invite us to participate in your movement. Give us what we need to respond in trust, to be moved. Move us with being uncomfortable and inconvenienced with the injustices that we see and turn a blind eye to – right in our midst. Make us so uncomfortable and inconvenienced that we can’t avoid living out the faith that you give us. And don’t let us get away with passing the buck onto someone else, as if they know more, are better, or can do a better job. You call on us for a reason. You give us exactly what is needed at the right time, and in the right place. You have a great deal of faith in us. Yet, we doubt – ourselves, and the faith that you give us and have in us. Forgive us, and show us that we are as ready as we’ll ever need to be to follow you. Amen.
Prayer for November 10: Please pray with me. God who calls us, today we pray that we might open our hearts to answer your call for our lives. Answering your call is not always easy Lord, but it is worth it. No, your goal isn’t to bless us with worldly things as if that which will pass away is worth much in the grand scheme of things. Rather, your goal is the restoration of creation and relationships. You have accomplished it all and the amazing thing is that you invite us to participate in the unfolding of your kingdom. Help us to say Yes! to your call. Amen.
Prayer for September 28: Please pray with me. God who calls us, today we pray for all those in seminary who are in the process of either being assigned to a region or are undergoing examination for approval. Calm their hearts and give them peace. Send your spirit to guide all in these processes. Let your will be done, and help us to accept that will and align our hearts and minds with your will. Amen.
Prayer for September 7: Please pray with me. God who accomplishes all things, today we pray that we would let go of the need to be so very busy. Help us to realize that all that needs to be accomplished has been accomplished. Help us to see that our work is not something that advances our salvation, yet it is our call and vocation to participate in your mission to the world – to reconcile and restore creation’s relationship with you. Amen.
Prayer for July 7: Please pray with me. God who sends us on journeys, today we pray for all who journey through life, who answer your call, and who seek you out. Help us to hear your small still voice in our lives, to discern your wisdom from the constant barrage of noise that is nothing more than a loud clanging bang. Move us away from our constant desire to be entertained and distracted in the urgent so that we can see the road ahead more clearly, that we can reach out a hand to our fellow travelers, and we can answer your call for our lives. Amen.
