Prayer for January 17: Please pray with me. God of the frustrated, help us. There is so much frustration in our world. We yell out to you Lord about big things – Why do you let evil persist? We yell out to you Lord about small things – Why won’t this person see it my way? We are frustrated Lord! Yet, you never promised smooth sailing in life. In fact, you promised difficulty. When we are frustrated, turn us to ask why we are frustrated. Is it because we aren’t in control? We aren’t. Help us to see that. Amen.
Prayer for September 6: Please pray with me. Holy God, today we pray for patience in those times when we are frustrated. How easily we get frustrated, how often we get frustrated over things that ultimately don’t matter. Forgive us of our impatience and when things don’t go the way we want them to. Help us to see that we are not the center of the universe. Amen.
Prayer for July 15: Please pray with me. How long oh Lord? How long must our cries rise up to you? How many people must be killed for who they are? How many must be scapegoated? How many must be our enemies? Why must we insist in creating an us and a them? Help me understand, oh Lord. We see attacks and we want to respond in anger and with vengeance. We hear the scapegoating and we want to scream in frustration. But we are reminded, time and again, that responding in anger will only bring more anger and more violence. We are reminded that frustration will only lead to giving up. Instead, Holy God, we pray that you make us an instrument of peace, today and every day. That you make us an instrument of mercy, forgiveness, and healing. Not just in word, but in action as well. Give me the courage to be these things in a world that rejects them, but desperately needs them. Amen.
Prayer for April 7: Please pray with me. God who is patient, today we pray for the frustrated, the angry, and those who don’t feel listened to. There are many things in our world to be upset by Lord – things said or done in your name, politics, culture, education, government, jobs, driving, and the list goes on. God, help us to see that our true frustration resides within ourselves – not other people. We are frustrated and angry and upset because others won’t say or do or believe what we want them to say, do or believe. Today we are reminded that you are the God of creation, not us. The sun doesn’t circle us and our lives. Help us to remain humble, to offer grace to others and ourselves just as you have given us grace and to realize that other people do, say and come to their conclusions for reasons that make sense to themselves, just like we do. God, we ask that you help us to see often that there is no us versus them – there is only us. Amen.
