Prayer for August 30: Please pray with me. God of healing, today we pray for all those who suffer through natural disasters. We of course pray for those who suffer from Hurricane Harvey. We pray that people would find safety and that recovery would come quickly to those affected. We also pray that our eyes do not just see the suffering of disasters in our own land, but in other locations too. Amen.
Prayer for April 6: Please Pray with me. God of healing, today we raise up people and things that need healing. So often we recognize the people who need healing, but there are so many others that need healing too. Heal those pets in our lives that need your loving embrace. Heal the plants that have had a rough Spring in the North. Heal our stuff that we rely on to carry out your call for our lives. Amen.
Prayer for March 28: Please pray with me. Healing God, today we pray for all who need a healing touch. You know all who are suffering and in pain. Work through doctors, nurses, care givers, pastors, chaplains, family, friends, and so many others to be a healing touch in their lives. Healing may come with a cure, but not always. Sometimes the best cure a person can receive is to be at peace with their life situation and a sense of calm for what is ahead in life. Only you know what each person needs. Make us an instrument of healing to those in need. Amen.
Prayer for February 6: Please pray with me. Word Incarnate, you are the Word of God who became flesh. We have a tendency to use words in ways we shouldn’t. Too often we use words to harm, hurt, divide, instill fear, and to control others. Turn us from these practices to you. Instill in us the wisdom to use words to bring healing, reconciliation, blessing, and peace. Amen.
Prayer for February 3: Please pray with me. God of healing, today we recall your servant St. Blaise. We pray to you Lord for all those who suffer from a throat ailment – heal them. Open their lips so they can praise you and pray to you, sooth their throats so they may find nourishment from you, soften their hearts so they may speak words of blessing to others. Amen.
Prayer for December 9: Please pray with me. God of health, today we pray that you would grant us your healing – healing our bodies of ailments, healing our hearts of hard-heartedness, healing our minds of clutter, healing our spirits of being unsettled, healing our feet that we may walk the gospel into each place we come to, healing our hands that they may offer loving touch, healing our mouth that it may offer words of mercy, love, peace, and forgiveness. Heal us Lord as we prepare for you to come – as you came so long ago, are coming into our lives today, and will come back again to bring about the fulfillment of your kingdom. Amen.
Prayer for July 15: Please pray with me. How long oh Lord? How long must our cries rise up to you? How many people must be killed for who they are? How many must be scapegoated? How many must be our enemies? Why must we insist in creating an us and a them? Help me understand, oh Lord. We see attacks and we want to respond in anger and with vengeance. We hear the scapegoating and we want to scream in frustration. But we are reminded, time and again, that responding in anger will only bring more anger and more violence. We are reminded that frustration will only lead to giving up. Instead, Holy God, we pray that you make us an instrument of peace, today and every day. That you make us an instrument of mercy, forgiveness, and healing. Not just in word, but in action as well. Give me the courage to be these things in a world that rejects them, but desperately needs them. Amen.
