Prayer for February 9

Prayer for February 9: Please pray with me. God of history, remind us that history didn’t start when we were born and probably won’t end when we die.  Remind us that we are just tiny blips on the grand scheme of creation’s history, yet you care and love us all the same.  Remind us that we will not be forgotten after we die – you hold us in your memory so that we can be raised again to experience new life with you.  Amen.

Prayer for December 7

Prayer for December 7: Please pray with me. God of history, today we pray that we would be open to learning from the mistakes of the past. Humanity seems to be rather thick-headed Lord, forgive us for not learning lessons that have been taught over and over and over again.  Open our hearts to remembering that war is an answer with devastating consequences for all involved. Open our hearts to remember that peace is not a destination, but rather a way of life.  And open our hearts to hear your call to pick up and carry our cross, regardless of what others may do.  Amen.

Prayer for November 30

Prayer for November 30: Please pray with me. God of patience, today we pray an unpopular prayer.  Give us patience Lord, especially in knowing that you act in your own timing to fulfill your will.  We may not like it.  In fact, we may howl in protest at you God.  That’s only because we seem to have this belief that history began when we were born and will end when we die.  Yet we know that we only occupy the tiniest of spaces on the timeline of history.  Help us to understand what our role is in your will and send your Spirit to strengthen us to live into that call.  Amen.

Prayer for November 17

Prayer for November 17: Please pray with me.  God of history, so often we mark time based on historical events that include war, death, and rulers of this world.  Yet, we know that all time belongs to you and your kingdom.  You see time differently – as a gift that you give us.  Help us to be good stewards of that gift as we live our call to be followers of you and serve our neighbors.  Amen.
