Prayer for December 14

Prayer for December 14: Please pray with me.  God of word and language, today we pray that language would be used to build up the kingdom, not used as a weapon to dehumanize, divide, and destroy.  Language can be a weapon that leads to destruction, or it can be a healing agent.  When power and the pursuit of power mixes with language, the consequences are not pretty.  All we need to do is look at the news, social media, and our leaders.  Yet, we are not innocent in this either.  How often have we used language against a neighbor, a stranger, a friend, a loved one.  Change the words of our hearts Lord.  Change them to reflect love, forgiveness, and care.  Amen.

Prayer for November 14

Prayer for November 14: Please pray with me.  God of language, who is the Word, we lift up those who need a word of Good News in their lives.  We ask for a blessing for all who proclaim your Good News in places and with people who live in darkness in the world.  Be a word of grace, mercy, and forgiveness to people who rarely experience these gifts.  The world can be merciless and unforgiving, yet you offer an alternative Lord.  Help the hearers of this Word to be open to hearing it for what it is – an invitation to restored relationship with you.  Amen.

Prayer for April 25

Prayer for April 25: Please pray with me. God of innocence, today we pray for infants. Bless them and keep them Lord. They don’t know anything about this world. They can’t speak. Yet they know a universal language and use it well – love. We have much to learn from these infants – help us to receive love unconditionally like an infant.  Amen.

Prayer for September 13

Prayer for September 13: Please pray with me. Word of God, you come to us in unique ways – especially through language.  Open our eyes to the language we use when we communicate with you and with others.  As you work to soften our hearts, soften our language as well.  Move us away from language that separates and divides.  Shift our communication away from absolutes that creates an us and a them.  Open our ears to hear how we communicate the falsehood that our way is right and that everyone else had better get on board or else they are a part of the problem.  Instead, shape us to communicate something completely different – make us instruments of your peace, love, and hope.  Amen.
