Prayer for November 15: Please pray with me. God who comes to creation over and over, keep coming Lord. We are a bit slow on the learning curve God. You make a promise and keep it, and then we break our end of the bargain. And yet, you keep coming after us. Not to come and smite us because you are ticked off. Rather, you keep pursuing us over and over again because of your great love for us and all of creation. Thank you. We can’t even begin to comprehend this. All we can say is thank you. And that’s all that is needed. Amen.
Prayer for September 29: Please pray with me. God of community, today we pray for those who feel alone. Remind us that we are not alone, that you are always with us. Remind us that we are loved. Remind us that you are present. Help us to be your presence, your love, and your companionship to others who are suffering. Amen.
Prayer for September 25: Please pray with me. God who is completely unfair, we thank you for being unfair. Please don’t ever treat us fairly. For by treating us fairly, we would get what we deserve and that’s not going to be pretty for any of us. Instead, continue to treat us unfairly – giving us grace we don’t deserve, giving us forgiveness we certainly don’t deserve, giving us love unconditionally, and giving us mercy when the world demands you be merciless – even some of your so-called followers. Thank you for be unfair with us. Help us to be just as unfair with others, especially our enemies. Amen.
Prayer for September 13: Please pray with me. God who is love, today we ask that your love would spread over all of creation. Help us to see what that love is really about. And to experience your unending love for your creation. Lord, we were once your enemies because we had been turned away from you due to sin. You radically reorient us back to you. Help us to offer that same kind of love to others knowing that love draws us closer to one another. Amen.
Prayer for September 11: Please pray with me. God of forgiveness, today we pray for all those in conflict. Sin is the breaking of relationship – a type of turning away from you and from others. We ask that you would radically reorient us towards you and others. Love is the drawing in towards one another – let your love grow within us. You have forgiven us and showed great grace and mercy to us. Help us to respond to this gift by also forgiving others with grace and mercy. We can’t control how others will respond, but that isn’t the point. You call on us to offer these things regardless of the response. Give us the courage to do just that. Amen.
Prayer for August 8: Please pray with me. God of Love, who is love itself, we thank you for the love you have and give. Help us to understand what love really is – it is not controlling, but freeing. It doesn’t judge, but accompanies. It does not demand, but rather encourages. Love is not conditional, but rather unconditional. Allow us to experience this kind of love. And in experiencing it – give us the courage to also give it to others. Amen.
Prayer for July 24: Please pray with me. God of the unexpected, today we ask that you surprise us. Open our eyes to see and our ears to hear your Word anew. Help us to hear your word of grace and love for those around us – friend and foe. Help us to see the humanity of those around us. Remind us that our job is not to judge and force others to be like us and adopt our version of “right.” Instead our job is to respond to the grace and love you give us by being wheat in the midst of weeds – to live differently, to proactively live out the kingdom, to forgive, to love, to care, to be peacemakers. Amen
Prayer for July 3: Please pray with me. God who loves, today we ask that our hearts and minds are touched by your unconditional love. Open our hearts and minds to seeing the humanity of others, especially those we consider our enemies. Because you offer us grace and mercy, turn our hearts to offer grace and mercy to others. Amen.
Prayer for May 31: Please pray with me. Holy God, we pray for an end to violence – senseless violence, domestic violence, relationship violence, religious violence, political violence, violence directed at individuals and groups because of skin color, sexual orientation, nationality, gender, age, physical ability, helplessness, and more. In place of violence, let your love flow. Amen.
Prayer for April 25: Please pray with me. God of innocence, today we pray for infants. Bless them and keep them Lord. They don’t know anything about this world. They can’t speak. Yet they know a universal language and use it well – love. We have much to learn from these infants – help us to receive love unconditionally like an infant. Amen.
