Prayer for July 28: Please pray with me. God of silence, today we ask for a moment of silence. We live in a world of constant noise and distraction. Silence, when we experience it, often feels unnatural. Yet, it is really often the only thing that makes much sense. Silence our minds and hearts today Lord, even if only for a moment in time. Silence our technology and gadgets. In the space of that moment of silence, open our hearts, our ears, and our eyes to hear and see you – to hear your calling for us and to see how you encounter us. And in hearing and seeing you and your call, open our hearts to being changed by you. Then, prepare us to re-enter the noise and distraction – renewed, refreshed, and ready to go. Ready to touch lives, to share good news, to carry out your call for us in this world. Amen.
Prayer for March 30: Please pray with me. God of silence, today we thank you for moments of silence where noise is put away. So many in our culture fear silence, yet so often it is in silence that we can recognize your voice. Give us the courage to embrace silence, give us pause when we try to fill the void with noise or motion. Silence our minds and hearts so that we may be open to hearing you call us and to knowing how much you love us. Silence our excuses so that we might hear how you call us to serve. Help us to be silence for others so that they have room to know they are loved. Amen.
Prayer for February 10: Please pray with me. God of silence, today we thank you for the moments of silence that grace our lives. We need silence Lord. There is too much noise, too many distractions, too much talking and not enough listening, too much noise pollution. All the noise and chattering creates so much anxiety around us. Help us to be silent more often, to create a space for silence and reflection, a space for pause and calm. Create in me a silent heart oh Lord, so that I can hear your calling for me. Amen.
Prayer for October 17: God who is, today we come to you and humbly ask that you help us in a dire need. We are a distracted people – very distracted. We are distracted with a tidal wave of information, but very little wisdom. We distract ourselves with our technology, yet really don’t advance as human beings. We are distracted with constant noise, yet wonder why we never know what peace or rest is. We have made distraction an idol that we constantly seek out. Forgive us Lord. As much as we tell ourselves and others how important these distractions, we know that what is truly important is you, our relationship to you and those around us, and what you call us to be and do. Lift our heads away from the distractions to see you in our midst. Turn us to see our neighbors in need and act. Put away the distractions to be with those we claim to care about. Amen.
