Prayer for October 19

Prayer for October 19: Please pray with me. Holy God, today we pray for respect.  This is something that seems lacking in our society today.  Give us the courage to respect those we disagree with, maybe be those we think are wrong, or worse, dangerous.  How on earth can we possibly expect to see the fullness of your reign when we keep getting in the way by our actions towards others?!?  Soften our hearts and lower our shields.  Yes, this is a risky prayer Lord.  It’s one where we put our money where our mouth is and is summed up by this statement: Give us the courage to live out what we claim to believe.  Amen.

Prayer for September 19

Prayer for September 19: Please pray with me. God who governs all creation, help us to trust today.  We see so many terrible things around us, we hear about these things throughout the world.  Yet we are told that all of creation is in your hand.  We are told to have faith, yet that can be difficult.  Today we ask that you strengthen our trust – trust in you, trust in ourselves, trust in others.  Help us to see that trust is a foundation that can build up our world and society to something much better.  Amen.

Prayer for September 14

Prayer for September 14: Please pray with me. God of all creation, today we come to you to ask that you radically transform us.  We boldly ask that you shift our understanding. Help us to stop fighting over power, or even just shifting power from one group to another.  Help us to recognize that this is the story of humanity – a flawed story that never ends up well for anyone.  Open our eyes and hearts to seeing that what you are doing is radically different – implementing a completely different society – one where the fight for power isn’t the focus.  Make us instruments of your word of hope for a hopeless world.  Amen.

Prayer for June 28

Prayer for June 28: Please pray with me. Patient God, today we pray for patience. We live in a society that wants things immediately – we want it when we want it. Help us to slow down, to listen, to hear, to reflect and avoid reacting. Help us to seek patience in our lives so that we can be a patient presence in the lives of others.  Amen.
