Prayer for October 23

Prayer for October 23: Please pray with me. God of creation, today we lift up all who feel as though they are living a lie.  So many people feel stuck and afraid.  Many feel alone and lost.  Many have been told that they are condemned because of who they are.  So many people have been thrown out and are outcasts because of who they are or what they have done.  They are filled with regret.  Yet, this is not what life is about. You offer the outcast Good News – that the outcast is also a child of God.  The each person is deeply loved by you God.  Yes, outcasts are sinners, just like every one of us.  Yes, outcasts are broken and have broken relationships – just like we all do.  But that is not the end of the story.  It’s just a fact of life.  Because of being sinners and because of being broken, we know how much we need you God.  We can’t do this alone.  We can’t even begin to start.  Send your Spirit to empower those who feel drained.  Send your Spirit to wipe clean those who feel that they are dirtied by living a lie.  Send your Spirit to bring dignity and humanity to those who feel less than human.  Send your Spirit, Lord.  And in so doing, send us also to be with the outcast and the broken.  Amen.

Prayer for July 17

Prayer for July 17: Please pray with me.  God who sows Good News, spread the invitation to be a part of your family far and wide.  You call on us to be your hands and feet and to also spread Good News to many.  May your Spirit work through us to share Good News with the poor – telling them that their worth is not found in what they possess, but by whose they are.  Work through us to share Good New with the sick – telling them that healing is on the way.  Give us seeds of Good News to those that are bound by fear, addiction, or other restrictions – telling them that they will be set free.  Give us strength in our arms when we spread seeds of Good News to the outcast and the “other” of our cultures and societies – telling them that they are part of God’s family.  Your invitation is a message that tells us that you, Oh God, love us and care about us.  When your seed hits our lives, it changes us, makes the wheat of your message grow within us, so that the seed of this Good News may be spread to others so that they may know that God loves them and cares for them and so do we.  Amen.

Prayer for April 5

Prayer for April 5: Please Pray with me. God who breaks hearts of stone, break through the walls we set up around our hearts – keeping you and others out.  Give us a mirror to see how ugly we can be when we scapegoat, dehumanize, overpower, and cause violence.  Let us see it on our faces so that we can be convicted.  And in being convicted, embrace us with your love, forgiveness, and your Spirit – move through us and change us Lord.  Change us so that we embrace others.  Amen.

Prayer for January 9

Prayer for January 9: Please pray with me. God of time, as we move into our normal routines, let your Spirit move through us and touch our lives in ways that make time special. Guide our hearts to use time in special ways Lord – to touch others’ lives and time in special ways.  To be present for others, to listen, to console, to comfort, to offer wisdom when asked for it, to love, to offer mercy, and to be a peacemaker.  Amen.

Prayer for November 30

Prayer for November 30: Please pray with me. God of patience, today we pray an unpopular prayer.  Give us patience Lord, especially in knowing that you act in your own timing to fulfill your will.  We may not like it.  In fact, we may howl in protest at you God.  That’s only because we seem to have this belief that history began when we were born and will end when we die.  Yet we know that we only occupy the tiniest of spaces on the timeline of history.  Help us to understand what our role is in your will and send your Spirit to strengthen us to live into that call.  Amen.

Prayer for November 11

Prayer for November 11: Please pray with me. God of service, we pray a prayer of thanksgiving for all veterans – those who have served their country.  You call on us to live out our vocations fully as a way to be your presence to the world and those around us.  This can even be done by those that serve in the military.  We also pray that your Spirit would blow through the world to make wars and division cease so that other men and women will not have to risk their lives to keep others safe.  Amen.
