Prayer for February 26: Please pray with me. God of time, today we come to you to ask a special favor – help us to see the gift you give us in time. Time is the most precious commodity we have. Yet so often we waste it. Why? Why do we go day-to-day thinking that we are guaranteed so many more days? Yet, you know differently. Our days are limited. Help us to receive each day as a gift to be used as best we can – not in attempting to reach worldly success, but rather in striving to be your followers. Strengthen us for each day. Amen.
Prayer for January 18: Please pray with me. Timeless God, you touch creation in many ways over history. You work in mysterious ways. How fortunate that we get to see the results. How blessed are we when you choose us to carry out your will. Yet, don’t let that go to our heads. We aren’t the only ones that you choose to work through. We aren’t the first ones either. Nor will we be the last. And, this isn’t the only place where you are active. You work throughout creation, across time to bring about your reign. Let us be instruments of your will, but don’t let us be tools who buy into thinking that we are more important and more special than others. Amen.
Prayer for September 20: Please pray with me. Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end, today we come before you knowing that it is only you know the beginning and ending of all things. It is only you who know how it all happens. Help us to let go of having to know how things will turn out. Loosen our grip on the desire to control our surroundings, our lives, our possessions, and others. Not knowing is really scary for many people God, but we recognize that when it comes down to it, we know very little. Help us to embrace uncertainty in life and in so doing, walk in trust of you. Amen.
Prayer for September 19: Please pray with me. God of time, today we pray for something unique and different – a new way of seeing time. Help us to see time not in terms of the linear expression that we all experience – time as our enemy and something that we race against. Instead, help us to experience time differently – in moments in which we experience your in-breaking into creation. We claim and proclaim that you are alive and and active – yet so often we feel those are just words. Break into our routines and lives so that those words become life. And in so doing, let us be your hands and feet and carry this good news to all we meet so that their lives may be touched by you also. Amen.
Prayer for August 22: Please pray with me. God who created time, we ask that you bless the time we have here on earth. Give us the courage to do your will. Help us to speak out against injustices, to encourage people in their lives, to proclaim Good News, and offer hope. While we live in the time line of creation, you intersect our lives in time. You create kairos moments in which you encounter us in our journeys. Open our eyes to see those kairos moments, open our hearts to hear what you have in store for us, and open ourselves to be ready to respond to these holy moments. Amen.
Prayer for March 20: Please pray with me. God of time, today we pray that you would bless this week and all that it holds. Accompany us as we experience the great joy, deep sorrow, fiery anger, and holy laughter. Be with us as we work, rest, play, and learn. We thank you for all the individuals that we will meet this week and for the established relationships with others that will grow throughout this week. Amen.
Prayer for February 9: Please pray with me. God of history, remind us that history didn’t start when we were born and probably won’t end when we die. Remind us that we are just tiny blips on the grand scheme of creation’s history, yet you care and love us all the same. Remind us that we will not be forgotten after we die – you hold us in your memory so that we can be raised again to experience new life with you. Amen.
Prayer for January 18: Please pray with me. God of time, it’s the middle of the week. Today we offer a simple, yet complicated prayer. We give you thanks that we are alive at this time. Make us instruments of your will and your peace today. Let us carry your light to those who are in darkness. Because you bless us, help us to be a blessing to others. Amen.
Prayer for January 9: Please pray with me. God of time, as we move into our normal routines, let your Spirit move through us and touch our lives in ways that make time special. Guide our hearts to use time in special ways Lord – to touch others’ lives and time in special ways. To be present for others, to listen, to console, to comfort, to offer wisdom when asked for it, to love, to offer mercy, and to be a peacemaker. Amen.
Prayer for December 19: Please pray with me. God of rest, today we pray that you would give us a moment of rest – whatever length of time that is – in the midst of the hustle and bustle of life. As we approach Christmas, there is so much to do and so little time to do it in. Help us to let go of the idea of perfection – the idea that the perfect Christmas will look right and sound right and contain the perfect gifts, as if Christmas were some kind of picture from a hallmark card. Instead, help us to know that the perfect Christmas is one spent with loved ones thankful for each other and for you Lord. Help us to see that everything else is just glitter – it adds to the celebration, but is not essential. Amen.
