Prayer for April 27: Please pray with me. God who speaks to us, open our ears and our hearts to hear your word. Let it work within in and through us. Let it flow through our veins and transform us. Let us hear your word not in a way that we necessarily want – a way that only provides comfort for our preconceived notions. But rather open us to hear your word in ways that would move us to be in alignment with your will – that would call on our allegiance to you. Amen.
Prayer for November 14: Please pray with me. God of language, who is the Word, we lift up those who need a word of Good News in their lives. We ask for a blessing for all who proclaim your Good News in places and with people who live in darkness in the world. Be a word of grace, mercy, and forgiveness to people who rarely experience these gifts. The world can be merciless and unforgiving, yet you offer an alternative Lord. Help the hearers of this Word to be open to hearing it for what it is – an invitation to restored relationship with you. Amen.
Prayer for October 24: Please pray with me. Eternal Word, we pray that you would speak words of mercy and understanding through each one of us. Speak words of forgiveness when we screw up. Speak words of compassion when there is confusion. Speak words of dignity when we feel we have had our humanity taken away from us. Speak words of reconciliation when we are caught in division. Amen.
Prayer for September 1: Please pray with me. God who is the Word, we pray that we would hear your word for what it is. We pray that we would not try to twist it to make it into something that it is not. Open our ears to hear the Law and Gospel that is present. Open our ears also to hear when the Bible is used as a tool to divide and condemn. Give us legs to run far away from this. Open our hearts to hear your word and take it in and in so doing, change who we are. Amen.
Prayer for July 24: Please pray with me. God of the unexpected, today we ask that you surprise us. Open our eyes to see and our ears to hear your Word anew. Help us to hear your word of grace and love for those around us – friend and foe. Help us to see the humanity of those around us. Remind us that our job is not to judge and force others to be like us and adopt our version of “right.” Instead our job is to respond to the grace and love you give us by being wheat in the midst of weeds – to live differently, to proactively live out the kingdom, to forgive, to love, to care, to be peacemakers. Amen
Prayer for June 9: Please pray with me. Word of God, today we pray for those in conflict. Let your Word infiltrate conflict in this world. Let your Word become present where there is conflict. Let your will be known in the conflict. And help those in conflict to move towards reconciliation and forgiveness. Amen.
Prayer for March 17: Please pray with me. Holy God, today we thank you for the example of St. Patrick, who carried your Word to Ireland. Implant your word in us that we may carry it in our words and deeds to all we meet on this day and every day, where ever we may be. Amen.
